07/06/2005: "Blood and Poop"

Last night I walked along Wellesley near Yonge on my way home. Across from the old St. John's Ambulance building (it's set to be torn down soon for a condo - but it was one of the few places in the city you could see a Maltese Cross) there were a few squad cars and an Ambulance. Some people were hanging around, and there was what looked like a pile of medical garbage on the sidewalk.

I just walked through there again today, at 3pm. There were bloodstains on the sidewalk. I guess there is no blood cleanup crew in the city. It's the second time I've walked through blood on the sidewalks around Church and Wellesley.

On a related non-cleanup note, a few weeks ago I was riding my bike along Queens Quay but there was horse crap in the bike lanes in a few places -piles big enough that if I hit them I'd have been thrown off my bike. Up ahead were the offending police horses. I think the police are required to pick up after their horses. I was going to ask, but then thought maybe I should avoid doing so. I'd have been polite, but they're probably used to being challenged, and wouldn't give me the answer I wanted anyway. It reminds me of when the police cruisers were always parked in the public square in front of 52 Division on Dundas during the Fantino era. It had that above-the-law feeling. They don't park there anymore, which is nice.

I finally did nerve and ask Ossifer Friendly upon his horse why they never poop and scoop the equine variety of fecal artwork left throughout the downtown core. He bluntly answered that theirs wasn't illegal whereas puppy poop was. Who Knew?

...Perhaps they should stable the horses in front of 52 Division to celebrate the post Fantino era... just a thought.

And in other non-segway related tangents, the First Ever Berkeley California Left Coast edition of the Toronto Psychogeographer's walk is tonight, July 7th. Click the url above for info.
